Proud parents and enthusiastic staff applauded Camden Academy's incoming 9th graders at the annual Freshmen Pinning Ceremony held at the high school on Thursday, August 27.
The rite of passage has become a treasured tradition at Camden Academy.
"The ceremony is very important," 9th grade dean Mr. Julian said. "It allows students to experience the school's community and shows them that their teachers care about them. The students are excited and their families are, too."
Freshman Anyelen Bueno, who is looking forward to playing sports at Camden Academy, said that the pinning ceremony is important to her.
"It confirms us as freshmen with new beginnings," she said.
The highlight of the ceremony was when the students received their official "Class of 2030" pin, adhered to their sweaters by teachers, staff, and Camden Academy alumni.
Camden's Promise Chater School Board President Nancy Cruz said that the pins are more than just something to wear on their uniforms.
"The pins represent belonging, commitment, responsibility, and possibility," she said.
During the ceremony, Camden Academy co-principal, Mr. Edwards put it plainly: "You are now part of the Camden Academy Charter family, so welcome, Class of 2030!"
