Academy Sports

On Monday June 1st, Camden Academy staff, student-athletes, and families came together for the annual Sports Banquet, a ceremony that recognizes our student-athletes and their accomplishments throughout the winter and spring sports seasons. The event celebrated the positive impact these students made while highlighting their sportsmanship, dedication, and commitment both on and off the field.

Throughout the evening, coaches presented awards to athletes who made a significant impact on their teams. Many student-athletes competed in multiple sports, demonstrating their versatility and dedication throughout the school year.

The banquet also recognized several historic achievements and record-breaking performances during the season. One of those milestones belonged to Nayla Figueroa, a freshman on the softball team, who became the first player in Camden Academy history to pitch a no-hitter.

When asked about the accomplishment, Figueroa said, “The moment felt unreal. I never expected someone like me, a freshman, to be able to accomplish such a goal.”

She also shared her goals for next season, adding, “My goals for next year are to not stress myself out so much, believe in myself, and believe in everything I can do.”

While Figueroa made history on the softball field, Chase Scotton also left a lasting impact on Camden Academy athletics. A senior who competed in multiple sports, Scotton reflected on his athletic career at Camden Academy.

A piece of advice he would give underclassmen is:

“I would definitely say academics are very important academics always come first. After that, just do your best, make sure you manage your time for everything you need to do for your sport, and keep your heart in it because it matters.”

Mr. Tossetti, Coach of the Year, reflected on his experience leading a young team and emphasized the importance of student-athletes:

“So basically, I’ve got a young team. I had a young team last year. I want them to not just be athletes, but to be student-athletes. It was the first time where I got the highest GPA for all sports teams here at the school. I really like seeing the girls succeed and challenge themselves, get better every day, even in the offseason. So, as you leave here, take that mindset with you—keep growing, keep working, and continue to carry yourself as a student-athlete in everything you do.”

Overall, the banquet was a true celebration of hard work, dedication, and achievement, honoring a successful season for Camden Academy student-athletes.
