Katz Dalsey’s Third Grade Students attended the first annual Multiplication Bee. Fifteen third graders competed in multiple rounds, quickly solving different multiplication tables before time ran out. Mr. Brandt moderated the event, reading each problem while the students raced the clock to answer.

As the rounds went on, the tables became more challenging, and students were gradually eliminated. There were plenty of smiles, a few tears, and lots of excitement throughout the event. Instead of just one winner, there were three winners of the multiplication bee.

The winners were Dallas Banks from homeroom 3-2, Ty’meyah Culler from 3-3, and Amaia Valdez from 3-4. We caught up with Ty’meyah to hear her thoughts on the competition. “It was pretty good,” Culler said. “I got confused a few times with Mr. Brandt, but went through it, and I won.”

Mrs. Tortorello, who organized the event, praised all the students for their hard work and dedication. “The third-grade students have been working for the last three weeks on multiplication practice pages in their classrooms,” she explained. “The third graders completed over seventeen hundred worksheets practicing their facts, and today was their culminating activity. This will help them as they prepare for the NJSLA test.”

While there were three winners, the real winners were the entire third grade, who put in the effort, practiced diligently, and are ready to tackle their upcoming NJSLA tests.
