Camden’s Promise Charter School has always believed in its students and their full potential. One of the biggest ways the school helps prepare students for the future is through the library.
The PAC Library has been a key part of Camden’s Charter School Network for over twenty years, and much of that is thanks to Librarian Mr. Aaron Brown. His dedication to fostering a love of reading, researching, and learning has made the library a welcoming place for students of all ages. Students have access not only to books but also to tools and guidance to support research projects, homework, and exploring new interests.
Mr. Brown says the library is essential for both academic and personal growth. Academically, it’s there to support every assignment. Personally, it allows students to explore new genres, satisfy their curiosity about the world, and most importantly, see themselves in books. “Every kid can see themselves in books, whether it’s nonfiction, a biography, or a story where the character reflects their background,” he said. “The library is the heart of the school. If you use it, it can be a friend to everyone.”
He also encourages students and families to take full advantage of library resources. “Reading is the key to everything,” Mr. Brown explained. “Libraries, school or public, have tools that can help in everyday life. Once you know how to use a library, you’re empowered. You can access, analyze, and fact-check information. It all starts with reading and using your imagination.”
The library has left a lasting impression even on students who have moved on. Camden’s Promise alumni and social media coordinator, Mr. Wilson, said the library helped him develop research skills and a sense of identity in books that carried him all the way through college and graduate school. “I had to start somewhere when it came to research, and it started at Camden’s Promise with Mr. Brown,” he said.
As Librarian Appreciation Week approaches, it’s clear just how much Mr. Brown’s dedication has meant to students and staff. The PAC Library isn’t just a place to check out books. It’s a hub for learning, curiosity, and inspiration.
