On July 21st, Katz Dalsey Academy students began assembling a mural that will become a lasting legacy piece for the school. Throughout the school year, students, staff, and visitors will be able to see the collaborative artwork displayed in the building.
For the past several weeks, students have been painting individual squares using acrylic paint and Katz Dalsey's school colors. Each square features a design that represents the student's interests, hobbies, or something meaningful to them. Now, all of the pieces are coming together to create one large mural.
Mrs. Leonelli, one of Katz Dalsey's art teachers, was excited to see the project begin to take shape.
"What is tying our mural together is symbols, logos, personal meanings for the students," Leonelli said. "We are working on a collaborative project that is going to be a mural."
Ms. Peischl, the other art teacher at Katz Dalsey, also enjoyed watching the students express themselves through their artwork.
"The students designed their own logo based on things they like to do," Peischl explained.
She added, "They also designed something that has meaning to them, so we talked about logos and designs for different companies and how they could make something about that."
Every square tells a different story, but together they create one piece of art that represents the students of Katz Dalsey Academy. The mural not only showcases their creativity, but also gives students an opportunity to express who they are while leaving behind something future classes will be able to enjoy for years to come.
